An elderly man suffered serious injuries after being hit by a driver of a pickup truck in uptown New Westminster on Monday night.
Around 8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 23, members of the New Westminster Police Department located a pedestrian who had been struck by a driver in the parking lot of a gas station near the intersection of Sixth Avenue and Eighth Street.
According to a NWPD news release, officers provided aid to the 84-year-old man, who had sustained serious injuries. The pedestrian was transported to the hospital, and investigators began working to identify the driver.
“We urge motorists who were driving near the intersection before or after the time of the hit-and-run to check their dash-cam footage for similar-looking vehicles,” said NWPD spokesperson Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “Your surveillance or dash camera may have captured something. Please check.”
In a statement to The Record, the NWPD said the senior was struck while he was inside the gas station’ parking lot. Police couldn’t comment on the specifics of his injuries, but said it appears he may need care for several months.
Investigators are seeking witnesses and dash cam footage from the area of Sixth Avenue and Eighth Street from 7:45 to 8 p.m. on Monday night.
Witnesses described the suspect vehicle as a white pickup truck with construction equipment in the box of the truck. The driver is described as an Asian male.
“Additionally, the New Westminster Police Department are asking the driver to do the right thing and come forward to police,” said the news release.
