A roaring success.
The Rotary Pot of Gold Charity Golf Tournament collected more than $37,000 this past summer, reaching a new milestone in funds raised since its inaugural event in 1996.
More than $700,000 has now been donated in nearly 30 years to community programs organized by New West Rotarians, according to a statement sent to the Record.
This includes the hot lunch program at New Westminster Secondary, as well as scholarships for post-secondary education and other initiatives for local youth.
"The real winners are the beneficiaries of the tournament, who are the youth in our community," said Pot of Gold tournament chair Rick Molstad.
The golf fundraiser is a partnership between the Royal City Rotary Club, Rotary Club of New Westminster, Salvation Army (New Westminster) and the Lower Mainland Purpose Society.
Dozens of Metro Vancouver residents participated in the 28th annual event on July 16 at Mayfair Lakes Golf Club in Richmond (5460 No.7 Rd.).
The winning team's score was a round of 62 (-9) by Aaron Hill, Scott Hill, Ian MacKerricher and Glenn Nelson. No one claimed any of the $50,000 prizes from the hole-in-one contests.
Members of the BC Lions UPROAR Dance Team were also on hand to cheer on the golfers.
The 29th Rotary Pot of Gold Charity Golf Tournament is tentatively scheduled for July 15, 2025, also at Mayfair Lakes.
