It's almost been a week and New Westminster Police still don't know what happened to a missing scooter.
On May 29, at approximately 11:30 a.m., an elderly resident in the 700-block of 13th Street discovered that his mobility scooter had been stolen out of the car park where it had been parked for the last year.
The senior asked a neighbour if he had seen the scooter and the neighbour said he had seen it at 9:30 a.m., meaning the scooter most likely disappeared between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m.
"This is a disheartening situation for the owner, as he had just one final $100 payment to make on the $1,600 scooter, which he requires for mobility," Sgt. Diana McDaniel of the New Westminster Police Department said in a press release. "We are working to locate the scooter and return it as quickly as possible to its owner."
The missing scooter is a one-year-old model and is described as having chrome mag wheels, a basket in front and back with two flag pole tubes above the rear wheels, and a Sunquest Mobility sticker on the front handlebars.
A representative of Sunquest Mobility said that he is the only dealer in the province who is able to order replacement keys for this particular model. And since the owner has the only sets of keys in his possession, the scooter would not be of use to any other parties.
McDaniel told The Record on Monday afternoon that police still have not located the scooter and she's encouraging anybody with information to call the police department at 604-525-5411.
