A suspect is in custody and an investigation is still ongoing into a long weekend stabbing in New Westminster that left two injured.
In a news release, police said the department (NWPD) received several 9-1-1 calls of the incident at around 6:45 p.m. on Friday night, Oct. 11.
Reports indicated that multiple people had been stabbed near the intersection of Columbia Street and 4th Street — not far from the SkyTrain Station.
Two people were found with stab wounds; one victim's injuries were minor, while the other's was considered serious but non life-threatening.
Officers made an arrest several blocks away from the scene. The suspect matched descriptions provided by witnesses.
"We’d like to thank the numerous witnesses that called 9-1-1 and shared with police what the suspect looked like," said NWPD spokesperson Sgt. Andrew Leaver.
"Their detailed descriptions helped our officers in finding the suspect and making an arrest."
Anyone with more information on the incident is asked to call NWPD at 604-525-5411.
