Friends, family and strangers gathered at John Robson Elementary on Saturday to honour the life of Karim Meskine, who was beaten to death late last year.
A message of thanks to those who attended the memorial was posted on the Facebook page, R.I.P Karim, started in memory of the young man from Surrey.
“The compassion and support from friends, family and strangers will get the family through this difficult time,” read the note.
Meskine was days away from his 20th birthday when he was brutally attacked near the 22nd Street SkyTrain on Dec. 17. He passed away a few days later in hospital.
A New Westminster youth was charged in Meskine’s death and remains in custody.
