The average rent for a New Westminster apartment hasn't changed much in the last month.
Rentals.ca's national report for September 2024 shows an asking price of $2,493 per month for a purpose-built unit or condo apartment in the city.
That's a modest increase of 0.2 per cent from $2,488 per month in August, according to the data.
It's also the fifth most expensive rent price for an apartment in a B.C. medium-sized market — 14th across Canada — behind North Vancouver ($3,208), Coquitlam ($3,011), Burnaby ($2,852) and Richmond ($2,795).
New West's median —$2,493 — is also the same price as paying for a one-bedroom rental unit in neighbouring Burnaby, which is the second most expensive in all of Canada behind Vancouver at $2,649 per month.
Provincially, B.C. is still the most expensive to rent in with a studio apartment averaging $1,963, one-bedroom for $2,273, two-bedroom for $2,888 and three-bedroom for $3,435.
The total average in September was $2,570 for the province.
"B.C. and Ontario continued to dominate the top 25 most expensive mid-sized markets in Canada during September, with 23 cities making the list of highest average apartment rents," the report said.
Rentals.ca added in the suburban communities of Greater Vancouver, there has been an increase in single-family homeowners renting out individual bedrooms within their homes to offset the rising mortgage costs.
Nationally, rents increased 2.1 per cent last month compared to a year ago, which is the smallest year-over-year increase since October 2021, Rentals.ca said.
