A man who removed his electronic monitoring device and left his court-mandated residence in Surrey has been arrested in New West.
On June 6, Surrey RCMP announced they were trying to locate 22-year-old Kwabena Bosiako, who was under 24/7 house arrest with conditions including electronic monitoring, while awaiting trial on charges in relation to a Port Coquitlam robbery that occurred in November 2022.
“The charges include multiple counts of robbery using a firearm, discharging a firearm with intent and flight from police. Based on this previous incident, police believe he poses a risk to public safety and are actively seeking to locate him,” said a June 6 news release from the Surrey RCMP. “He should be considered armed and dangerous, and the public is advised to call 911 if they see him.”
A day later, Surrey RCMP provided an update stating that the suspect was in custody after being arrested in New Westminster on the morning of June 7.
According to the news release, officers with the Surrey RCMP Gang Enforcement Team were leading the search for the suspect.
“On June 7, 2023, at approximately 9:45 a.m., the Surrey RCMP High Risk Target Team, with the assistance of the Integrated Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team, arrested Kwabena Bosiako at the Columbia Square complex in New Westminster,” said the news release. “Kwabena Bosiako was transported to Surrey RCMP cells and will remain in custody to be brought before the courts.”
Bosiako was one of two men charged in connection to an armed robbery at the Journey Chrysler car dealership on Lougheed Highway in Port Coquitlam on Nov. 22, 2022. Bosiako, who lived in Port Coquitlam at that time, and Omar Demetris of New Westminster have both charged with one count of robbery.
