Need chocolate for your valentine? New Westminster's got some sweet options for you.

Hey, all you last-minute Valentine's Day planners in New West, I'm looking at you.

If you're suffering from some last-minute day-before-Valentine's panic and wondering where to go for ideas, never fear: New West's chocolate shops are ready to serve.

Wondering where to start for a few sweet treats for your partner, your bestie, your kids or, of course, yourself? Then here are a few ideas:

Origins Chocolate Bar

This shop at River Market is your go-to-spot for craft chocolate, with an array of ethical artisanal options from around the world. Stop by for a chat to get some ideas, or sign up your sweetie for a chocolate subscription box for the gift that keeps on giving. And if you're looking for a date-night idea? Well, you can take part in a special chocolate tasting on Valentine's Day (Tuesday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m.), where you can taste a range of single-origin dark chocolate to find out what you — and your sweetie — love best.

You can sign up for the chocolate tasting and get other delicious ideas at the Origins Chocolate Bar website.

Candy Alley

If you haven't stopped in to this popular spot at the Shops at New West, then you're missing out. You'll feel like the proverbial kid in a candy store with the array of nostalgic treats on offer — not to mention hard-to-find international options and unique local merchandise (including some chocolate build-a-bear kits from Burnaby's Ginger & Bread Co.).

Just one warning: Don't get so carried away buying all your own favourites that you forget to pick something up for your valentine. Check out Candy Alley's Facebook page for inspiration.

Purdy's Chocolates

You know you can never go wrong with B.C.'s ubiquitous mall chocolate shop. The familiar purple packaging is popular for a reason: It's tasty, and there's a huge range of offerings to suit every taste. Whether your sweetheart is more of a classic flavour type or loves some slightly out-there options, you're bound to find something to appeal. You can choose your own selections to make a gift box of your own, or pick from a variety of Valentine's gift baskets — and, of course, it's easy to get to, being right at Royal City Centre.
