If you see a group of first responders gathered at the west end of River Drive on Wednesday, don’t panic – they’re just testing their emergency response skills.
The exercise is being organized by the City of New Westminster and Southern Railway of British Columbia. The goal is to have local firefighters and police officers respond to a mock dangerous goods spill in the railyard, according to the city.
“The simulated events of this exercise will test current response concepts, plans and capabilities when responding to a rail line incident in New Westminster,” noted a press release.
The exercise, which will also include personnel from Delta emergency services, is expected to run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the 2100 block of River Drive.
