Live entertainment, some unique sales, and a chance to learn about the city’s efforts to tackle homelessness – it’s all happening this weekend in New West.

Friday, Oct. 18

Homelessness Action Week

Play the Did You Know? Game and win prizes at the Homelessness Action Week in Hyack Square event. There will be coffee and snacks, as well as an opportunity to meet reps from the city’s social planning and crisis response teams. It’s part of the 2024 Homelessness Action Week programming in New West.

Saturday, Oct. 19

Music of the Night: The Concert Tour

Enjoy a concert celebrating the music of Andrew Lloyd Webber, including selections from Phantom of the Opera, Evita, Cats, Jesus Christ Superstar, Sunset Blvd, and more. A live band and performers will take to the stage to perform iconic theatrical music.

Provincial election

Vote in the 2024 provincial election. New West residents will be electing Members of the Legislative Assembly in three ridings – New Westminster-Coquitlam, Burnaby-New Westminster, and Richmond Queensborough.

DougZine Fest

Trade and buy zines and enjoy some hands-on activities at the Douglas College Library Zine Collective’s inaugural Zine maker event. The day’s fun includes Zines to trade and buy, as well as hands-on activities – collage and Zine making (starting at 2 p.m.) for all ages.

Art + Craft Supplies De-Stashing

Stock up on all your crafting needs at the Royal City Gogos’ Art and Craft Supplies De-Stashing event, which is raising money to support African grandmothers who are caring for a generation of children who have been orphaned by AIDS. Most items range from $1 to $5.

Costume Sale

Head to the Stage Musical Theatre Academy’s fall costume sale where you will get great ideas for your next costume. Shoppers will find clothing, shoes, dance attire and more at this weekend’s sale. Proceeds go towards the academy’s StageFest 2025 programming.
