New Westminster police are "very concerned" about some recent robberies.

A robbery suspect allegedly threatened to throw a woman over a railing if she didn’t comply with his demands.

The New Westminster Police Department reports that a woman was robbed by three suspects about 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, while standing outside an ATM inside the Shops at New West near the New Westminster SkyTrain station.

According to police, three people who were not known to the woman approached her and asked for her cigarettes and a transit pass.

“One of the suspects threatened to throw her off the nearby fourth floor railing if she did not comply with their demands,” said a NWPD press release. “The suspects left the scene with the transit pass and cigarettes.”

Police are canvassing the area for CCTV footage and are working with their public safety partners in the Lower Mainland region, including the Metro Vancouver Transit Police, to identify the suspects.

“We’re growing very concerned about the recent increase in these kinds of robberies,” said NWPD spokesperson Sgt. Justine Thom. “This is the third robbery in the past week. Our robbery coordinator that is based out of the major crime unit is reviewing all of these files to look for trends and is liaising with other agencies in an effort to identify suspects.”

The suspects in this most recent robbery are described as:

Suspect 1: White male, 30 to 40 years of age, with brown hair and brown facial hair. He was wearing a white shirt and jeans.

Suspect 2: White female with a slim build, standing 5’8” tall, with brown hair in a ponytail.

Suspect 3: White male, 20 to 30 years of age, standing 6’0” tall, with brown hair. He was wearing a red sweater.

Anyone who witnessed this incident or has CCTV footage is asked to call the New Westminster Police Department at 604-525-5411.
