Two occupants of a vehicle that crashed into a tree were taken to hospital after an early-morning accident in New West.
The New Westminster Police Department and the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service are investigating a single-vehicle collision that occurred at the intersection of Royal Avenue and Stewardson Way around 4 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 16. There, officers found a vehicle that had driven into a tree.
“Officers were concerned for the occupants of the vehicle due to the damage observed to the vehicle and the tree it collided with,” said the NWPD in a statement to the Record. “BC Ambulance transported both occupants to hospital.”
NWPD spokesperson Sgt. Justine Thom said officers secured the scene and began collecting evidence.
“Traffic had to be rerouted for several hours, and we appreciate the patience of drivers and residents,” Thom said in a news release.
The NWPD took to Twitter at 4:35 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 16 to warn motorists to avoid the area.
At 9:25 a.m., the police department reported that Stewardson Way had reopened to traffic.
