Spring is now officially here and as we turn our calendars to May, it's time to get out and about and enjoy the best the Royal City has to offer. We're continuing with our popular feature - our staff's Top 5 (Or More) Things To Do This Weekend. We have some great offerings for this weekend in New Westminster.

1 Get buying on Sunday, May 6 for the New Westminster Horticultural Society's Super Plant Sale, running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Armoury at 530 Queens Ave. There will be a great selection of plants and gardening items at this great event. 2 Get shopping on Saturday, May 5 for the Second Time Around Market, running from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Holy Trinity Cathedral at 514 Carnarvon St. For more info, contact Richard at 604-521-8382 or go to [email protected].

3 Get watching and listening to In the Mood, presented by the Golden Age Theatre, 7: 30 p.m. on May 4 and 1: 30 p.m. on May 5 at Century House, 620 Eighth St. Come enjoy this light-hearted look at life in a retirement home for three families during a two-week period. This play is directed by Margo Prentice and written by Greg Finnegan. Tickets are $8 for members and $10 for non-members. For more info, contact Century House at 604-519-1066.

4 Get charitable on Saturday, May 5 for the Fountains of Laughter fundraising event put on by the Rotary Club of New Westminster at the Columbia Theatre at 530 Columbia St. The event's at 6: 30 p.m. and tickets are $50 each. The event features two headline comedians, appetizers and door prizes. All proceeds to fund the drinking fountains at Westminster Pier Park.

5 Get into photography on Friday, May 4 for the New West Photo Club gallery opening at 8 p.m. at the facility at the corner of Kingston Street and 12th Street. If you love photography, this is the place to go. For more info on this event, contact Justin at 778-891-4774.

6 Get planning for the future of Queensborough at a community plan workshop on Saturday, May 5 from 10: 30 a.m. to 2: 30 p.m. in the Port Royal room at the Queensborough Community Centre at 920 Ewen Ave. This is part of the final phase of consultation as the city seeks comments on the draft vision, themes, goals, objectives and land-use plan that will form part of the Queensborough Community Plan.
