Letter: Forget electoral boundaries — switch to proportional rep

What if we just had a system that forced politicians to cooperate and compromise?

British Columbia should worry less about redrawing electoral boundaries and just switch to proportional representation, says this letter writer.

Editor:

Electoral boundaries are always debated, making no sense of the idea who is my MLA.  Election by riding is stupid in that we get a government elected by fewer than half the votes.  It is clear that we all vote for the party and not the person who only represents the party. Any one who doubts that need only look at how MLAs vote in the legislature.

Proportional representation, where the percentage of votes for any one party gives the same percentage of seats in the house, is the only way of electing.

It is not difficult to do and easy to understand. Redrawing boundaries will never be needed.  Of course PR will often bring minority government, the very thing that will force everybody to cooperate and compromise. Imagine that!
