Letter: It's not New West highrises causing problems, it's parking

Parents driving their kids to school and cars parked on both sides of the street are challenges, this writer says.

What's causing the traffic in New Westminster? It's not just about highrises, this writer says.

Editor:

I have only lived in New Westminster since 2009. It's not the highrises but the lack of including parking.

Here in New Westminster, I see parents driving their kids to school and cars parked on both side of the street.

In Ontario, the school boards hire bus companies to drive their kids home. Each home had a driveway for their vehicles. Most cities had a bylaw that cars had to be parked either on the right or left side: i.e. from the 1st to the 15th on the even side; 16th to 30th odd. This allows for emergency traffic, and buses, etc. have a way to move.

Here, cars park right up to the corner, including work trucks. Turning left, one has to nose out into the on coming lane to see if they can move into the left lane.
