This New Westminster resident says the city has raised the bar for future aquatic and fitness centres in the Lower Mainland.

Community members flocked to the grand opening of the city's new swimming pool earlier this year.

The Editor:

New Westminster has raised the bar!

I have now visited təməsew̓txʷ, our new aquatic and fitness centre, several times, enough times to allow me to compare it to other centres. And I will say with the greatest pleasure that New Westminster has raised the bar for function, comfort, and enjoyment.

I don’t recall the engineers, but I recall attending many of the community engagement meetings where I said and heard others state their hopes and dreams for the new centre, and I would say the engineers truly listened.

Two very important points: we wanted a 10-lane pool, we got 11 lanes. The extra lanes outside the tank allows us to come swimming even when swim games are taking place. In short, I don’t have to miss my swim.

The fitness centre is brilliantly divided into zones and the heavy weightlifters are downstairs – just what we wanted.

I was skeptical about the lazy river because I had seen others, but I confess after my swim I enjoy a walk around the river; it is amazing.

Yes, New Westminster has raised the bar for future aquatic/fitness centres throughout the Lower Mainland. Thank you.
