Letter: Why so shocked at New West trustee's 'despicable' behaviour?

This writer says Community First politicians have gotten too comfortable in their positions as the "NDP's chosen little helper elves."

Editor:

I've watched with much amusement at the shock and horror of some people in the New Westminster community in regards to the Dee Beattie scandal that has rocked the politico community.

Most seem surprised that an elected official from Community First, "the NDP farm team," as one reporter on Twitter so aptly put it, would ever participate in something so despicable and insulting that has affected so many.

This makes me wonder where these same people have been for the last five years given the presence and behaviour of the Team Cote/Community First supporters who have made online discourse so unbearable in our city, or where these same people were when Community First's first act as a municipal political party was to try to bully the Downtown BIA into handing over their branding. Makes you wonder what kind of person would vote for that, but here we are.

Community First supporters and politicians feel confident and comfortable in their positions here as the NDP's chosen little helper elves, and that comfort has translated for half a decade into some of the rudest, most arrogant, classless behaviour any city can come to expect from a municipal political party.

This is who they are, folks; this is the best they can do.
