A recent letter to the editor said New Westminster has become a "concrete jungle" — and other readers agreed.
Here are some highlights of the responses we received:

I have lived here in New Westminster since 1980. My family moved here from Manitoba. This place has grown since that it really is a concrete jungle.
I hate the bike lanes, especially on the small streets. It makes the traffic wait times longer. I have to take cabs sometimes. I pay more now than before.
They build all these condos and not enough low-income buildings. Our city council don't have to worry — they have a place to live and don't have to worry about living in the streets like the homeless. Poor people can't buy condos. Enough is enough.

I used to live on Keary Street for many years. Traffic 30 years ago was a mess, and now it's even worse with the highrise apartments. What once was a beautiful city is now a concrete jungle. When council is done building all the highrises, what will you do with all the traffic?

We moved to a highrise on the Brow of the Hill 20 years ago, with full view of the river and Mount Baker. Now all we see is looming towers, with the highest yet to come. This new development will take the last sliver of view away from us.

Get real! 22 per cent less parking spaces for a highrise absolutely needs to have 22 per cent less storeys going up on any site. Council should be making common-sense decisions, not just financial sense decisions.

All over, they are cutting trees and building more and more concrete structures. This letter will do nothing when they have deaf ears.
