Temporary lane closures are coming to the Pattullo Bridge and New West roads as part of the ongoing work on the Pattullo Bridge replacement project.

Lane closures on and around the Pattullo Bridge are coming up starting tonight and continuing into the coming weeks.

Starting tonight, the northbound lane on the Pattullo Bridge will be closed to traffic travelling into New Westminster from Surrey for two nights. The closure, part of the Pattullo Bridge replacement project, is required while crews lift concrete deck panels on top of steel girders between the main bridge and off-ramp foundations.

To ensure the safety of workers and bridge users, the Pattullo Bridge will be closed northbound on Friday, July 19 and Saturday, July 20 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. The bridge will remain open to pedestrians, cyclists, and first responders at all times.

While the northbound lane is closed, Pattullo Bridge users travelling into New West are encouraged to take the Port Mann or Alex Fraser bridges as alternatives.

Starting Monday, July 22, nighttime lane closures are coming to some roads on the New Westminster side of the Pattullo Bridge. The lane closures will be in effect from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

“During the week of July 22, crews will be conducting nighttime utility and road work near the Royal Avenue and McBride Boulevard intersection. This work will take approximately one week to complete,” said a notice from the project team. “The following week, crews will move to Bridge Connector to conduct additional nighttime utility and road work just north of the Royal Avenue overpass. This work will also take approximately one week to complete.”

According to the notice, construction activities such as excavation, backfilling, and road paving are required for both works and may result in periods of noise.

“Temporary nighttime lane closures on Royal Avenue and Bridge Connector will be required,” said the notice. “When closures are in place, one lane will remain open in each direction.”
