New Westminster woman hit by car

A local woman is in intensive care after being struck by a vehicle downtown on Friday night. According to New Westminster Police Service, the woman was hit by a southbound vehicle just before 7:30 p.m.

According to New Westminster Police Service, the woman was hit by a southbound vehicle just before 7:30 p.m. as she was crossing at a marked crosswalk at Sixth Street and Queens Avenue.

The 19-year-old victim was taken to Royal Columbian Hospital where she is now being treated for "serious head injuries," according to New Westminster Sgt. Diana McDaniel.

The driver, a 74-year-old Coquitlam resident, remained at the scene, as did several witnesses.

The New Westminster police collision analyst and reconstruction team, and forensic identification team are now assisting in the investigation. McDaniel said there is no early indication as to the cause of the collision.
