A police investigation has determined foul play was not involved in a woman's death in Queensborough in September.

Foul play has been ruled out in the death of a woman in Queensborough in September.

The New Westminster Police Department was called to a Salter Street residence on Sept. 24 for a report of a sudden death. After attending the residence, the NWPD called in the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, saying “a 38-year-old female was located deceased under suspicious circumstances.”

IHIT worked in partnership with the New Westminster Police Major Crime Unit to gather evidence and determine the circumstances of the woman’s death. Police have now concluded foul play was not a factor in her death.

“IHIT has worked closely with the members of the New West Police Department (NWPD), the Integrated Forensic Identification Service (IFIS) and BC Corner Service throughout the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of an individual,” said Cpl. Sukhi Dhesi, IHIT media relations officer, in a statement to the Record. “Following the investigation, IHIT has determined that criminality is not believed to be a factor.”

The death of a woman in Queensborough has rattled some neighbours, who contacted the Record for an update.

“While the woman’s death was initially deemed suspicious, it was determined by the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team and the New Westminster Police Department to not have been caused by any foul play,” said NWPD Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “We want to assure those in the neighbourhood that there is no increased risk to public safety, and we appreciate their patience while our partners took the time required to conduct a thorough investigation.”
