Four players, six strings, one incredible night… International Guitar Night is coming to New West!
Music lovers from across the region can gather in New Westminster to witness a showcase of global guitar virtuosity, featuring four extraordinary musicians who blend tradition, innovation, and sheer passion as part of the 25th-anniversary of the International Guitar Night Tour.
For those unfamiliar with the IGN phenomenon, the concept is as simple as it is mesmerizing: every year, a fresh lineup of internationally renowned guitarists tours together, sharing their unique styles and collaborative energy. This year’s ensemble is a diverse mix of talent, sure to captivate both seasoned guitar enthusiasts and casual music fans alike.
You haven’t seen (or heard) anything like this.
New faces and familiar names
At the heart of this year’s tour is a guitarist whose name might ring a bell—Lulo Reinhardt of Germany. A beloved figure in the IGN community and the grand nephew of jazz legend Django Reinhardt, Lulo will bring their signature Latin Swing style to the stage, weaving nimble melodies, with complex chord changes and that distinct minor swing style that will transport listeners back in time.
Joining him are three newcomers to International Guitar Night, each with a compelling story and distinctive sound. From Britain, Alexandra Whittingham dazzles audiences with her classical repertoire, blending timeless compositions with contemporary flourishes and flair. From the Democratic Republic of the Congo via Ireland, Niwel Tsumbu will showcase his Congolese percussive guitar style; a rhythmic and uplifting celebration of his heritage and unparalleled skill. From Germany, Sönke Meinen delivers jaw-dropping Contemporary Fingerstyle guitar, known for its intricate blend of speed, dexterity, and emotional depth.
“It’s a big show for a big stage,” says Jessica Schneider, executive and programming director at Massey Theatre. “Each performer brings something unique, but together, they create magic.”
The Massey experience
Of course, there’s nowhere where you’re more likely to experience something magical than the Massey Theatre. A cornerstone of the region’s cultural landscape, Massey Theatre offers free parking, easy access to transit, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere in the heart of vibrant New Westminster.
“With so many entertainment options at people’s fingertips, they’re forgetting about the magic of live performance,” Schneider notes. “The singularity of it. And outside of the performance itself, attending live events provides the opportunity to connect with neighbours and friends you haven’t met yet.”
Massey Theatre’s commitment to bringing world-class talent to the region is clear, with IGN being just one highlight of a packed season. Audiences can look forward to live performances of the Musical hit 9 to 5 in the new year and plenty of holiday-themed shows and events before the end of this year.
For those who have never attended a Massey Theatre production, Schneidery has one message: “We can’t wait to host you here!” Whether you’re a devoted guitar fan, a casual music lover, or simply looking for a memorable night out, International Guitar Night promises an evening of musical brilliance.
